Children’s Christmas

17 Dec 2025, 23:00:00
Manchester
The Christmas season is a time of joy, sharing, and family. However, many children from diaspora communities in Greater Manchester, including the Cameroonian community, face challenges that prevent them from fully experiencing the magic of Christmas. Factors such as financial hardship, social isolation, and cultural displacement can limit opportunities for children to participate in festive events that promote belonging and identity. The Children’s Christmas Experience Project, organised by the Cameroonian Community of Greater Manchester (CCGM), aims to create a safe, inclusive, and culturally rich Christmas celebration for children and families. This event blends traditional Christmas festivities with elements of Cameroonian cultural heritage—including music, dance, food, and storytelling—to help children strengthen their sense of identity while also integrating into wider British society. This initiative not only spreads joy during the festive season but also highlights the Cameroonian community as a positive, active contributor to the social and cultural fabric of Greater Manchester. Building Unity, Preserving Heritage

The Cameroonian Community of Greater Manchester (CCGM) is a non-profit organisation bringing together Cameroonians living across Greater Manchester. Our mission is simple but powerful to unite our community under one umbrella for the sake of our children, and to keep our cultural heritage alive for generations to come.

Our Story

The CCGM was first founded in 2005, born out of a shared desire to connect, support one another, and celebrate our roots in a new and diverse city. In the early years, the community faced challenges differences in opinion and limited structure made it hard to realise our full vision.

For many years, progress was slow. But in 2023, a turning point came when the then-president made the bold decision to step back and form a transitional bureau. This new leadership team was tasked with rebuilding trust, reorganising the community, and putting in place solid structures to promote unity, cohesion, and collective growth.

A New Chapter

Since that moment of renewal, the Cameroonian Community of Greater Manchester has been on a journey of transformation. We are rebuilding stronger foundations guided by transparency, inclusivity, and shared purpose.

Our focus is not just on today, but on the future. We want to create spaces where our children can learn our language, embrace our values, and experience our culture firsthand. Through this, we aim to preserve the beauty of our Cameroonian heritage, even as we thrive in a multicultural Manchester.

What We Do

  • Cultural Events & Celebrations: Showcasing Cameroonian traditions, music, and food.
  • Community Engagement: Building support networks for families and individuals.
  • Youth Empowerment: Creating programs that help our children learn, connect, and grow.
  • Education & Awareness: Promoting our cultural identity and encouraging mutual respect within Greater Manchester’s diverse communities.

Our Vision

At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to unity. We believe that when we come together across generations and backgrounds, we create a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone.

Together, we are not just preserving our heritage we are building a legacy.
